Your maternity fees and payment options

You can have your baby at The Bays Hospital whether you have private health insurance with pregnancy cover or you choose to self-fund your maternity care.

If you have private health insurance

Before your admission, you should check directly with your health fund to understand:

  • what your policy covers for pregnancy and childbirth
  • any excess or gap payments you may need to pay
  • waiting periods that may apply

It’s important to also ask about cover for services that may not be fully included in your policy, such as:

  • special care nursery admission if your baby needs extra support
  • fees from anaesthetists, paediatricians, or other specialist doctors

These services can sometimes result in out-of-pocket costs not covered by Medicare or your health fund.

You may also have additional hospital-related expenses during your stay, such as:

  • partner meals
  • phone calls
  • take-home medications from the pharmacy

Your obstetrician or health fund can help you understand what to expect based on your individual cover.

Ambulance cover

Ambulance cover varies between health funds and policies. In some cases, cover may be limited if you need to be transferred from The Bays to another hospital.

To avoid unexpected costs, you are strongly encouraged to:

  • check your ambulance cover with your health fund
  • consider joining Ambulance Victoria before your admission to ensure you have full cover

If you are self-funding your maternity care

You can still choose to have your baby at The Bays Hospital even if you do not have private health insurance with pregnancy cover.

We offer self-funded maternity packages starting from $4,961 for a 2-night stay.

Your package includes:

  • full care from our maternity team throughout your stay
  • accommodation in a private, modern maternity room
  • access to state-of-the-art birthing suites, including private deep baths
  • restaurant-quality à la carte meals, freshly prepared and delivered when you choose

You can also extend your stay if needed, with additional nights available at $630 per night.

Important information about your package

Your package price does not include:

  • special care nursery admission if required
  • operating theatre or caesarean-related fees
  • obstetrician, paediatrician or anaesthetist fees
  • diagnostic tests or other medical charges
  • any additional hospital-related expenses outside your standard stay

Your stay duration begins at the time of admission and includes 48 hours from your arrival.
