Before your admission
Non-hospital fees
- Please ask your doctor for the item number(s) relating to your procedure/surgery along with an estimate of their fees.
- For an estimate of the anaesthetist’s fees, contact your anaesthetist directly and provide them with the relevant MBS item numbers.
- You may need additional tests or medications during your stay. These are provided by local partners and billed separately. Please contact Melbourne Pathology, iMED Radiology, or Slade Pharmacy directly for details.
Hospital fees and admission
- Complete the admission paperwork online 14 days before your admission through our Patient admission portal.
- Patients with private health insurance, please contact your health fund before your admission to confirm coverage under your policy. This includes verifying:
- if you will need to pay an excess or co-payment and the amount
- if any waiting periods or exclusions apply
- if your policy includes ambulance cover to be transferred between hospitals (if not consider joining Ambulance Victoria)
- Please note that any applicable excess and known out-of-pocket expenses will be payable at the time of admission.
- For self-funded patients, we will provide you with an estimate of admission costs after you’ve submitted your admission paperwork, which is payable upon admission. Please note that the final cost may vary from the estimate due to unforeseen changes in treatment or an extended length of stay. If treatment costs exceed the estimated amount, you will be asked to pay the difference before going home.
Payment options
- In person before or on admission by: cash, EFTPOS, bank cheque, Visa or Mastercard. If paying by credit card please be aware there is a 1% surcharge.
- Telephone payment: Visa or Mastercard
- Direct Bank Deposit details: will be sent to your mobile phone number the day before your procedure
Special needs
If you have any special needs or need to provide us with extra information about you, please contact our reception staff before your admission.
Admission time
- We will send you an SMS the business day before your admission around 2pm confirming your admission time and any applicable out of pocket expenses.
- On the day of your admission, please come to the main entrance located on Vale Street. Take a seat in the reception area, where a member of our administration team will attend to you.
Before your procedure
Your doctor will explain how to prepare for your procedure, including what medications you should take or stop. If you haven’t received this information or have any questions, reach out to your doctor as soon as possible.
If you’re feeling unwell in the days leading up to your operation, speak with your doctor – your surgery may need to be rescheduled. And if you can’t attend on the day, please let us know right away.
You may also be contacted by one of our pre-admission nurses to help plan your care and discharge. If you have questions, you can call the pre-admission nurse between 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday on (03) 5976 5210.
Protecting your personal information
We collect your information to provide you with the best possible care. Your personal and medical details are only collected when it’s:
- necessary for your treatment and care
- required by law
- needed for reporting purposes
- required to process payments for your hospital services
If you’re transferred to another hospital or care provider, a summary of your admission and care will go with you to support continuity of care.
