For the past three years, our community has been turning a small everyday item into meaningful change through the Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs initiative.

Since becoming an official collection point in 2022, The Bays has collected an incredible 248,080 plastic bread tags, weighing 91.4kg, thanks to the generosity of our staff, patients, residents and wider community.

As this long-running initiative comes to an end, we would like to recognise and thank everyone who played a part in making it such a success.

A special thank you goes to Preadmission Nurse Belinda Finn, who helped establish The Bays as an official Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs collection site and championed the initiative from the beginning.

We also extend our gratitude to the dedicated colour sorters at The Bays Hospital Aged Care, who generously volunteered their time to sort and prepare the collected tags.

A very special thank you goes to Celia Tabone (pictured right with her friend Meg), who has been our chief colour sorter over the past year. Celia, who uses a wheelchair following a spinal injury, first became involved through the Rosebud CWA before generously offering her time to sort our bread tags by colour.

Celia has also been a patient at The Bays on several occasions, and we are incredibly grateful for her ongoing support, kindness and commitment to this cause.

To everyone who collected, sorted and donated bread tags over the years — thank you. Your generosity has shown how small contributions can make a big difference, helping transform everyday items into opportunities for greater independence and mobility.
