Courtney and Sam Jaffrey recently returned to The Bays to add a second heart to our Giving Tree. Here Courtney shares the story behind why they chose to add hearts to our Giving Tree:

“Both of our daughters, Daisy (born 2023) and Poppy (born 2026), began their lives at The Bays Hospital.

Daisy was delivered by obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Andrew Griffiths and cared for by paediatrician Dr Simon Costello, while Poppy’s arrival was supported by obstetrician Dr Emily Fiske and paediatrician Dr Cameron Smirk.

Their arrivals were filled with joy, but also a little uncertainty. In those first days, both girls needed time in the Special Care Nursery due to jaundice, and as new parents, those early hours felt emotional and overwhelming.

What we remember most from that time is the steady care that surrounded us. The midwives who checked in with calm reassurance helped turn a worrying start into something we could move through with confidence. We never felt alone in it.

The Bays quickly became more than the place where our girls were born. It held us through some of our most vulnerable moments, and then again years later when we returned to welcome Poppy into the world. Each time, we felt the same kindness, respect, and genuine care for our family.

The Bays will always hold a special place in our hearts.

As a family, we feel deeply grateful for the care we received and would be honoured to recognise both Daisy and Poppy through The Giving Tree. It feels like a meaningful way to celebrate where their stories began, while helping support the families who will come after us and experience the same exceptional care.”
