The Bays Aged Care (Hastings) – COVID-19 Exposure Media Statement

25 October 2021

The Bays Healthcare Group is pleased to report that the recent COVID-19 Exposure at The Bays Aged Care has been contained, and the home has commenced a staged reopening.

The first stage, implemented on Tuesday 19th October, has seen the removal of isolation protocols for those residents living in the Gold and Hostel wings of the home.  The second stage, implemented on Wednesday 20th October, has seen the removal of isolation protocols for those residents living on the ground floor of the new nursing home.  The third stage, scheduled for implementation on Friday 22nd October, will see the isolation protocols removed for those residents living on the first floor of the new nursing home.  The final stage of the reopening will see the entire home re-open on Tuesday 26th October.

We continue to comply with all Department of Health and Commonwealth protocols at The Bays Aged Care during the easing of the COVID-19 Exposure restrictions to ensure the ongoing protection of residents, staff, and visitors.

With sadness, we have had four residents pass away during this time.  All will be missed by staff and residents alike, and we feel privileged to have cared for them and supported their families during this time. We send our love and sincere condolences to all.

The Bays Aged Care would like to thank all the residents and their families for their support during this time and for entrusting us to care for them and their family members.

We continue to keep all those involved up to date with clear and transparent information via regular updates through personal calls, Zoom forums, emails, letters and family correspondence.

The Bays Healthcare Group would like to acknowledge and thank all staff who contributed during this very challenging time. The entire team worked tirelessly, following all necessary precautions to keep residents and staff safe, connected, and well cared for.

CEO Jade Phelan and the executive kept residents, families, staff and external agencies up to date with the rapidly evolving situations through regular communication.

We talk about The Bays difference. This situation demonstrated exactly what that is, with every staff member stepping up and doing what is needed to ensure the safety and care of our residents and each other.

The Board of The Bays Healthcare Group is incredibly proud of the entire team.

We want to reassure all families and friends of The Bays Aged Care that we continue to focus on safely caring for and supporting our residents, their families and staff. The safety of all at The Bays Aged Care remains of paramount importance.
