Many of our patients experience difficulties getting to and from the hospital in non-emergency situations. Recognising that we can help ease this challenge The Bays recently launched a new Volunteer Patient Transport Program. The program provides a free transportation service for patients who do not have access to safe or reliable transport.
Launched in late 2017, the transport program is a door to door service providing The Bays patients with peace of mind for transport solutions. It means they can feel confident about making it to scheduled hospital appointments on time with safe escorts right to the door.
We recognised that many of our patients find medical appointments such as weekly dialysis and chemotherapy appointments challenging, and the costs and accessibility of public transport add to their stress.
We are extremely fortunate to be able to work with a team of experienced volunteers who donate their time to deliver this essential service. We are incredibly grateful to these community members who want to make a difference in the lives of others.
Thanks to an incredibly generous donation by Mr Bernie Taylor of the Grand Hotel Mornington, and our caring volunteer drivers, we know this program will fast become a valuable community service.
