Dr Ikram Nizam

Dr Ikram Nizam is a specialist orthopaedic surgeon with over 20 years’ experience dedicated exclusively to hip and knee surgery. He consults and operates at The Bays Hospital, and also consults at Wattle Tree Consulting Suites.

Dr Nizam is internationally recognised for his expertise in Anterior ‘Bikini’ Hip Replacement and 3D-Printed Patient Specific Instrumented (PSI) Total Knee Replacement. These muscle-sparing precision-guided techniques are designed to enhance recovery, with mobilisation within hours of surgery, discharge commonly within 24 hours, and early return to daily activities – often including driving within one week.

A respected surgical educator, Dr Nizam teaches anterior hip replacement techniques internationally and is invited to present at leading orthopaedic meetings worldwide. He remains at the forefront of innovation in hip and knee surgery, with multiple peer-reviewed publications.

Dr Nizam completed his medical degree and Basic Surgical Training in the UK, including experience at a leading London orthopaedic centre, before undertaking Advanced Orthopaedic Training in Sydney, and completing a Masters at the University of New South Wales.

Dr Nizam also runs an Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Fellowship training program for orthopaedic surgeons around the world to train under him.

He holds fellowships and memberships with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Australian Orthopaedic Association, Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow, and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
